A prime focus for this class is to understand how our relationships to our ancestors can affect our lives today. Family patterns, behavior and trauma can be passed down to us, and in order to heal these ancestral wounds, we must acknowledge and release them. Creating your own altar is a spiritual way of paying tribute to a loved one or finding a path to healing. After the altars are created there will be a group ceremony where we use singing bowls to release, heal, and celebrate our relationship to those that came before us.

All materials provided: including boxes, paints, small appliqués, lace, stickers, live marigolds, faux flowers, traditional pan de muerte, light snacks, refreshments, and adult libations.

*** Please bring any photos or mementos or sacred items with you that you wish to incorporate into your altar.

More about Dia de los Muertos:

Dia de los Muertos is a traditional Mexican holiday that celebrates the ancestors. During the 3-day holiday, starting October 31 to November 2, families gather to celebrate the lives of their ancestors and loved ones.  It is believed that during these days the veil between the world of the living and the dead is at its thinnest, allowing the ancestors to come visit the land of the living. Part of the celebration includes building an altar to the ancestors and adorning it with an array of colorful decorations, including sweet treats, special mementos and fresh marigolds to entice the spirits.
